What Your Child Needs to Succeed

Your teenager may have good reasons to delay college or skip it altogether. But that doesn't mean he can afford to skip getting the training he needs to succeed. There are good jobs in fields from biotech to 3-D animation, but they require academic and technical skills. Your teen will need a strong foundation in core subjects in high school and he should consider taking technical classes to prepare him for the job of his choice, even if your high school doesn't offer them.

Resources From the College Board

College savings clubs:
  • Allow you to use everyday purchases to save some money for college.
  • Allow you to accumulate rebates in a 529 college fund, where they'll accumulate and grow tax free.
  • May offer the alternative of simply receiving the funds directly in cash.
